Vu Qube Satellite TV Antenna FAQ

FAQ’s - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Introduction to Vu Qube Satellite TV AntennaSatellite Image

The Vu Qube enables satellite TV programming anywhere you park your truck, providing access to hundreds of digital TV channels and radio stations. The Vu Qube's Weather-resistant antenna works with DIRECTV, DISH Network, Bell ExpressVu and free-to-air receivers. It's rugged, user friendly & price conscious design make the Vu Qube the perfect choice for truckers wanting better entertainment options while on the road. There are 3 flavors to choose from and a 4th in the pipeline. All have exceptionally good price points, making a Mobile Satellite TV Antenna affordable for just about anyone.

The Vu Qube V10 Satellite TV Antenna is the most cost effective mobile Radome covered satellite antenna on the market. Its low price and ease of installation make it a perfect choice for the long-haul trucker, along with many others. Using the innovative FastFind wireless remote to position the antenna, satellite signal acquisition takes less than 5 minutes! Another innovative feature of the Vu Qube V10 is how it is powered. Because the antenna receives power from the DBS receiver, only a single coaxial cable is installed.

The Vu Qube Portable QuickMount Satellite TV Antenna is just as simple to use anywhere and there is no mounting. Set it on a tabletop, on the beach, on the ground, on your RV, at the cabin, camping, ice fishing, or your tow vehicle roof. Anywhere you can get a clear line of sight to the southern sky will do just fine. With the wireless remote and built-in automatic level compensation, you'll position the antenna and acquire the satellite signal fast. We know, we tried it out and it works. Like the V10, the Portable QuickMount also stores two satellite positions in memory for quick, one touch recall.

By Flipping a single switch, the V20 Deluxe Auto-Scan One Touch Setup Trucker Satellite TV Antenna will automatically and very quickly find and lock onto a satellite signal. Yes, it is that easy! The V20 is equipped with Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) technology, which can positively identify the desired satellite for your service provider such as DIRECTV, DISH Network or Bell ExpressVu. It compatible with Dish 500 and Dish 1000 Software, which allows you to change the station and have the V20 automatically change satellites. For those who do not want to mess around with a remote control, or want to use more than 1 satellite, the V20, with 2 LNBs, is just what the Dr. ordered.

For watching TV while moving, the V30 Deluxe In-Motion Trucker Satellite TV Antenna will automatically lock onto the satellite and stay there. It's a no fuss mobile satellite antenna for those who want the best.  The V30 is also equipped with Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) technology, which can positively identify the desired satellite for your service provider such as DIRECTV, DISH Network or Bell ExpressVu. It compatible with Dish 500 and Dish 1000 Software, which allows you to change the station and have the V30 automatically change satellites. For those who do not want to miss their favorite program while driving, or want to use more than 1 satellite, the V30 is just the ticket.

Here is a little Technical Information on Vu Qube Satellite TV Antennas for those interested.

"It arrived today. It's compact and ready to plug in. I connected one end of the 50' cable to the Vu Qube and the other to my external sat. input of the coach. I placed the Vu Qube with a view of the Southern sky, as directed. The remote is compact and even comes with batteries installed. I turned on the satellite receiver to see what elevation to set. I did so, on the remote, and then scanned left or right to find the satellite. The whole thing took just a few minutes." Bill Gunning, Livingston, TX

Can I install the Vu Qube myself?
Yes! The installation is straight forward for people who have basic mechanical and electrical skills and the proper tools (see the installation manual and multimedia installation presentation for specifics). If you are permanently mounting the Vu Qube to your vehicle it is important to remember to environmentally seals all the holes made in the vehicle used to attach the mounting bracket and pass the wiring into the vehicle. For the Vu Qube V20, it is important to make sure you connect the power harness to a 12-volt source.

What else besides the Vu Qube do I need to watch TV?
You will need an active subscription from a service provider including a receiver or a free-to-air receiver, in addition to a TV. You will also need a coaxial cable to connect your satellite TV receiver to the TV. The wiring necessary to connect the Vu Qube to the satellite TV receiver is included with the purchase of your Vu Qube System.

Vu Qube has a single out-put. What does this mean?
What this means is that you need to use a SINGLE TUNER receiver. For DISH Network we recommend the 301 or 311 receivers.  For DIRECTV, we recommend the D11 or D12 receivers. You may be able to use a dual receiver, but they tend to be problematic. No, you will NOT violate your warrantee by using a dual receiver.

Can I get HD with my Vu Qube?
The Vu Qube CAN receive HD signal with DISH Network.  The Vu Qube CANNOT receive HD signal with DIRECTV because they use the Ka band.  King is working on updating the Vu Qube to receive the new Ka band HD signal from DIRECTV but is not there yet.  The update for DIRECTV will be a new system and so current Vu Qubes can not be upgraded.  If you have DIRECTV you will not be able to receive HD programming.

My Remote Keeps Flashing an E0 Error. What does this mean?
The E0 error on the Remote Control means that the Remote is NOT communicating with the Vu Qube. The Remote may need to be Registered to the Vu Qube as follows:

Set up the Vu Qube, and turn on the TV & Receiver. Do not turn on Remote until ready to register. With the remote close to the Vu Qube antenna, (approximately 3-6 ft), press the "On/Off" button "On", and press the "Sat2" button at the same time. Hold the "On/Off" and "Sat2" buttons down for about 10 seconds. The remote will show "ID", and then ID "number", then the "Compass Pointer". The pointer will cycle "one complete revolution", and when the buttons are released, will be registered, functional, and operate the Vu Qube as intended. Thank you Ross Barth, Jefferson, OH.

How do I get Past the DirecTV Logo When I Turn on my Receiver?
Just press "Exit" on the DirecTV Remote. I believe this only happens with the newer Receivers.

Can I paint the Vu Qube?
Yes, the Vu Qube can be painted but you must use non-metallic paint. Metal will block the satellite signal from reaching the antenna inside the Vu Qube.

Why Can't I "lock-on" to a signal?
There are potentially several reasons you are unable to "lock-on" to a signal. Here are some solutions in order to the most common problems:

Believe it or not, the most common problem is that the coaxial cable from the Vu Qube is not plugged into to the receiver correctly. Make sure that the co-axial cable FROM the Vu Qube is plugged into the "Satellite-in port" on the receiver. While you are checking the connection, make sure your receiver is properly connected to the TV.

Make sure there are not any physical obstructions. The Vu Qube needs to have a CLEAR VIEW of the SOUTHERN SKY. Power lines, trees, buildings, other tall vehicles, obstructions mounted on your roof, your smoke stack, etc. can all block the satellite signal from reaching your Vu Qube. You may need to reposition your vehicle for a clear view.

Water can interfere with the satellite signal. Heavy rain or excessive dew on the Vu Qube can block your signal. If the Vu Qube is covered with moisture or morning dew, you can wipe the cover dry. If you are in the middle of a heavy rain fail, you may need to wait until the rain subsides to acquire the signal.

If these suggestions do not solve your problem, or you have a questions not answered here, drop an e-mail to info <at> wallacet.com or call Wallace's toll free number 1-866-802-2228. Operators are very knowledgeable, very friendly and will be happy to assist you.

Can I use more than 1 Satellite with my Vu Qube?
Yes, but keep in mind that the Vu Qube is a single LNB Satellite antenna, so it can ONLY be connected to 1 Satellite at a time. That means when you change from 1 Satellite to another, you will have to re-download the programming for the new Satellite. If by chance you want to jump back and forth between the 2 Dish Satellites, this could be irritating, but if your like most people who understand the Vu Qube is an inexpensive portable Satellite designed to get setup quickly when you travel, so you can watch TV, it should not be an issue. If you want a Satellite system that will closer mimic your home Satellite, you should consider purchasing a more expensive Satellite Antenna with at least 2 LNBs (preferably 3) that will act more like your home system. Winegard makes a Trav'ler that is a very nice unit and it will do exactly that.
