January 6, 2014 - A stretch of the New York State Thruway in western New York that leads to the Pennsylvania border is being shut down because of an incoming snow storm. State officials say the closing began at 3 p.m. Monday for commercial vehicles between Exit 55 near Orchard Park and Exit 61 at the state line.

Beginning at 8 p.m., all vehicles heading west on the Thruway will be detoured off the highway at Exit 50 and all eastbound traffic will be detoured at Exit 61. Motorists to Pennsylvania and points west are being asked to exit the Thruway at Exit 46 near Rochester to Interstate 390 and then to Interstate 86 westbound into Pennsylvania.

The National Weather Service has posted lake-effect snow warnings through Wednesday south and east of Lake Ontario, with total accumulations of more than 3 feet possible.
