Post Get to know those trucks!

Everyday, we get to see trucks running to and fro without any idea of their specific function. Getting familiar with trucks may actually help us out if we are in need of any service such us hauling dry goods or furniture. Below is a list of common truck types and commercial vehicles.

    Dump Truck
Used for transporting loose material such as sand, gravel, or dirt for construction. Usually it is equipped with a hydraulically operated open-box bed hinged at the rear, the front of which can be lifted up to allow the contents to be deposited on the ground behind the truck at the site of delivery.

    Flatbed Truck
A type of truck which can be either articulated or rigid. It has an entirely flat, level body with absolutely no sides or roof. Heavy loads such as construction equipment and even tanks for the military are hauled using this truck. Best for loads that require more space than is available on a closed body.

    Eighteen Wheeler
    A Semi-Truck configuration consisting of 18 wheels.

    Household Movers or Van Lines
Type of truck that hauls the furniture and appliances when you need to relocate or move.

    Heavy Trucks
Heavy trucks are the largest trucks allowed on the road. They are mostly used for long-haul purposes, often in semi-trailer or B-double configuration.

    Semi-Trailer Truck
Commonly known as tractor-trailer, is an articulated truck or lorry consisting of a towing engine (tractor in the U.S., prime mover in Australia, and truck in the UK, Canada and New Zealand), and a semi-trailer that carries the freight.

    Panel Truck
This is a type of a windowless cargo van built on a truck chassis. Similar in function to a sedan delivery, which is a station wagon with no backseat, and no side windows aft of the front doors. Both types of vehicles are frequently used for delivery of retail bakery products, flowers, laundry, and other consumer conveniences.

    Tanker Truck
A tank truck is a motor vehicle designed to carry liquefied loads, dry bulk cargo or gasses on roads. Common ones are railroad tank cars. Many variants exist due to the wide variety of liquids that can be transported. Tank trucks tend to be large--may be insulated or non-insulated; pressurized or non-pressurized; and designed for single or multiple loads (often by means of internal divisions in their tank). Some are semi-trailer trucks.

There are a lot of truck types nowadays. The most popular are those from Peterbilt, Volvo, Chevrolet, Kenworth, Mack, Western Star, and more. Feel free to post your 'truck knowledge' so that we can get to know them better.
