Westport Innovations has announced that it acquired BAF Technologies, a Clean Energy Fuels Corp.’s light-duty natural-gas vehicle subsidiary, for $25 million in Westport stock.

BAF provides vehicle conversions through Ford Motor Co.’s qualified vehicle modifier program. Westport also acquired BAF subsidiary ServoTech, an engineering firm offering design and prototype services.

Westport and Clean Energy announced a joint program aimed at boosting adoption of liquefied natural gas vehicles by trucking companies earlier in March.

According to Westport, with the acquisition it has the largest light-duty natural gas-vehicle market presence and product portfolio in the United States.

Westport said it is Ford’s largest partner in the qualified vehicle modifier program with more than 10 products. Westport’s product range with Ford includes, transit, cargo, shuttle and taxi vehicles.

The company also announced a $5 million marketing and sales program with Clean Energy aimed at increasing the natural gas-vehicle market.
