April 16, 2013 - A tractor-trailer driver was charged with reckless driving and two alcohol-related offenses after his vehicle went off Interstate 81 in Shenandoah County and overturned Monday evening.
State police Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler said Mauric Nason, 58, of Spartanburg, S.C., was trying to change lanes to the left when his 2012 International tractor-trailer went off the right side of the road at mile marker 268.3 at 4:20 p.m. Tyler said the truck overturned and went down the highway median before coming to a rest with its cargo of paper.
Tyler said Trooper C.S. Cline investigated the crash and charged Nason with reckless driving, possession of an open alcohol container in a vehicle and having alcohol in his system while operating with a commercial driver's license.
The accident closed I-81 for several hours and backed up traffic for miles, according to information posted on the Virginia Department of Transportation's 511 website.
