TROY, Mich. -- Meritor Wabco’s improved version of OnGuard collision avoidance system is now in production on Freightliner and Kenworth trucks. Navistar and Peterbilt are coming online in the second quarter.

The most important enhancement is a higher-definition radar that provides a 200-metre range, and can also detect vehicles in adjacent lanes to a tractor-trailer. The new OnGuard also offers stationary object detection and haptic warnings (a rapid pulsing of the brakes to get the driver’s attention).

A new trailer stability system called Rollover Stability Support (RSS) 1M was also launched along with OnGuard. It is compatible with a wider range of trailers, including flatbed, refrigerated, and livestock. Additionally announced was the expanded availability of System Saver electronically controlled air dryer (ECAD), which was first introduced in Feb 2012 with Volvo.

And finally, Meritor Wabco’s ECAS for 6x2 axle configurations was discussed. This electronically controlled air suspension provides a weight savings of 300-400 lbs and reduces fuel consumption by 2-6%. See source.
