We, the drivers benefit nothing from these. They are for company info mostly. And for attorneys in case of an accident.

So what about the independent owner-operators who choose to stay with the traditional logbooks? Is there any chance they can petition not to follow the EOBR mandate?

The big companies have lobbied for the EOBR's, log book regs. And it'll take them and there money to stop these over zealous rules and regs to come to a halt. Us independent drivers have been swept under the government rug. The big companies love rules and regs as much as the government.

Picture this. The large companies can profit .20 per mile per truck. In a fleet of 1500 trucks at 500 miles per day, that's $150,000 per day. $1,050,000 per week. Or $54,600,000 per year profit. If your biggest loss is from the competition, then a few million to have congress force out some competitor, then from a business Arabs point, It's well worth the money.

Ever wonder why there's only a handful of oil companies? Why no new refineries have been built? Fascism, American style. Within 20 years, there will only be a handful of independents left. And most of those will be lease operators for the big companies.

When was the last time you saw a chicken truck pulling a Swift trailer? I seen 3 just today.

Makes sense. If entrepreneurship is to be abolished in the future, I bet it would be really hard for independents to cope with the change. Too bad.

The sad part if it is what happens to company drivers pay when competition is reduced.

I would have to disagree a little here. Nothing is all bad or all good and much is determined by our willingness to look at both sides of an issue. Rather then rehash these issues, take a look at the article by Ryan Barnett, "10 Reasons Why EOBRs are a Trucker’s Best Friend". Ryan makes some very good points in favor of the EOBR. That is not to say that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks, but it definitely says the EOBR is not all bad. Here is the link.

Surely, they aren't all bad. In some cases you might actually use them to keep from being beaten in court. But, to the average driver, breaking too hard to avoid an accident, might count against you. Why? Because no one at the company was there to witness your situation. Without getting into specifics of every situation, EOBR's are for company and possibly attorney information.
What you do means a whole lot more than anything you've got to say.
