Well, I don't drive trucks, but I do get a chance to stop over at the local Pilot Truck Stop for coffee occasionally.

I get my coffee, and go out to the back of the Pilot Truck Stop and watch the truck action and sometimes chat with a driver or two.

These guys and gals that hop down out of the cabs just amaze me. I often wonder where they've been and where they're goin'.

Being an old retiree, I have time on my hands, so I decided to take some time to write some song lyrics that honored the folks that sit up behind the wheels of these massive monstrosities called 18 wheelers.

These truckers are not only the life-blood of our economy, but our very survival depends on the deliveries they make every day to our grocery stores and shopping malls, for our food and clothing, and also the gas for our cars and building supplies for the homes we live in.

Remember, ain't nobody gonna make it without food, clothing and shelter. Yes, truckers make it happen. Sounds corny, but our very lives depend on you folks!

Well, here goes my song lyrics -- do you know any guitar pickers that could put these words to some music?

Song: “Truckers”

Here they come down the road,

All them truckers carryin’ a heavy load,

It’s stuff, for you and I,

Headin’ for the stores with the things we buy,

Yeah, them truckers, they’re really somethin’,

Bad weather, crummy roads, lousy drivers, and low pay

They just keep on a-goin’, day after day,

Modern-day cowboys is what they are,

Ridin’ the roads both near and far,

Up in their cabs watchin’ the road,

The big trailer behind ‘em carryin’ a heavy load,

The long-haul boys are the heavy hitters,

L.A., Miami, New York, or Seattle,

These folks know they’re in a battle,

They’ve crossed mountains, rivers, deserts and hills,

Movin’ right along so they can pay them bills,

Yeah, them truckers are really somethin’,

Bad weather, crummy roads, lousy drivers, and low pay,

They just keep on a-goin’, day after day,

Mile after mile they keep on a’goin,

Bringin’ all the stuff that we’re waitin’ for,

They just keep on a-haulin’ more and more,

Rollin’ down the road to our favorite store,

Yeah, them truckers are really somethin’,

Bad weather, crummy roads, lousy drivers, and low pay,

They just keep on a-goin’, day after day.

Yeah, them truckers are really somethin’.

The End
